“I will remain healthy and fulfill my term,” proclaims Governor Akeredolu as he returns to his official duties following a medical leave.

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has expressed his determination to serve out his entire term as governor. After a three-month medical leave in Germany, Governor Akeredolu officially resumed his duties on Friday, September 8. As previously reported, he returned to Nigeria on Thursday, September 7, after a prolonged battle with an undisclosed illness.

During his return, Governor Akeredolu convened a meeting with various stakeholders from the state, including Olamide Oladiji, the Speaker of the Assembly, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Deputy Governor, and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), at his residence in Ibadan. During this gathering, Akeredolu handed over his official resumption letter to Speaker Oladiji and provided a copy to Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa.

In his remarks, Governor Akeredolu expressed his gratitude to God and the well-wishers who had prayed for his recovery, stating that he believes he will remain “alive” to complete his term, which concludes in February 2025.

He stated, “I came back, and as you know, it was a long journey. I decided that I must meet with you today. God has answered our prayers, and we give Him all the glory. I can assure you that our return is to the glory of God and the prayers of all of you here, and those who wished us well, I thank you very much.”

“The majority of our people here knelt down and prayed for our return, and we have returned. So, because we had to land here in Ibadan first, I said I have to meet with the house of assembly members here. We are here, and we are back. I am back, and by the grace of God, I will be alive to complete my full tenure in office. I want to tell you that I am back, and I will resume work immediately. This is my letter of resumption.”

In June, Governor Akeredolu had traveled to Germany for medical treatment, informing the State House of Assembly of his intention to take a 21-day leave and delegating his responsibilities to his deputy during his absence.
